JAS 39 Gripen Airshow | Borlänge Airshow 2026, Sweden

Borlänge Airshow 2026 took place at Dala Airport in Borlänge, Sweden, on 14–15 August 2026. The airshow was held in connection with Borlänge Flygklubb’s 90th anniversary and featured a wide range of aircraft and flying displays.

This video features a flying display by the Swedish Air Force Saab JAS 39C Gripen, flown by Henrik “Sunshine” Björling. The aircraft seen in the video is JAS 39C Gripen 39254.

The Saab JAS 39 Gripen is a Swedish multirole fighter aircraft developed by Saab for the Swedish Air Force. The designation JAS stands for Jakt, Attack and Spaning — Fighter, Attack and Reconnaissance — reflecting the three principal roles the aircraft was designed to perform.

The JAS 39C is the single-seat version of the C/D generation of Gripen. It uses a delta-wing and canard configuration together with a digital fly-by-wire flight-control system, giving the aircraft the manoeuvrability demonstrated during displays such as this one.

The JAS 39C/D is 14.9 metres long with a wingspan of 8.4 metres and a maximum take-off weight of approximately 14,000 kg. It is powered by a Volvo Aero RM12 turbofan engine with afterburner. According to the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), the aircraft can reach speeds of up to Mach 2 at altitude, withstand loads of up to 9 G and reach an altitude of 30,000 feet in less than one minute.

Gripen was also designed around the Swedish Air Force’s requirement for dispersed operations. The aircraft can operate from relatively short runways and road bases and was designed for rapid turnaround and maintenance in the field.

Borlänge Airshow 2026 was organised by Borlänge Flygklubb in cooperation with Fallskärmsklubben Dala, Radioflygklubben Viggen, Dala Airport AB and Borlänge Municipality.
